Mission and Vision

Friends of Blue House (FBH) is a not-for-profit scheme under the Viva Blue House (VBH) project. Based on the blueprint of VBH, we would like to recruit a group of like-minded friends who dedicate in heritage revitalization via various activities and platforms. We believe the conservation of both intangible and tangible heritage are vital, and that enhances a sustainable and diversified development of Hong Kong.

Visible assets bears witness to the development of our city, they are valuable and unique for our community.  Hong Kong being a civilized and developed society, our citizens aspire for richness in life through links to our past and building a sense of identity through conservation of our heritage buildings.

Invisible assets such as neighborhood’s relationship, regional history and culture, economic networks etc. were nurtured along with the community development. They filled the empty-souls of the buildings and are highly associated with them ever since.

Unlike the others intangible and tangible heritages in town, the Blue House Cluster has luckily escaped the bulldozer and is best to be the symbol of heritage conservation on a community scale. Besides we advocate real heritage conservation is needed, we’d also like change the progress of modernization in nowadays society. We cannot deliver this big project alone, JOIN THE FBH NOW, TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND PROMOTE THIS VALUABLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE CITY!

About「VIVA Blue House Project** HYPERLINK to the pdf.**

The Batch II of Revitalization Scheme had been launched by the Development Bureau in August 2009, the Blue House Cluster was one the list which include a total of 5 buildings. After a series of vote and selection, the “Viva Blue House Project” was being selected. It will be operated by 4 organizations altogether, including St. James’ Settlement, Heritage Hong Kong Foundation, Community Cultural Concern and Blue House Residence’s Right Group.

The Blue House Cluster is a unique collection of three tenement buildings dating from the 1920’s and 50’s on Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai. Blue House itself is listed as a Grade 1 historic building with Yellow House as a Grade 3, which is at the heart of a district rich in history and community human capital.

Viva Blue House is the first project of its kind, a constantly evolving story on local culture, a demonstrative research and educational tool, a beacon for sustainable communities to come. It is thus, a paradigmatic mixed-use tenement cluster, housing a well integrated living community. It radiates the best spirit of a Tong Lau (唐樓) neighborhood and is an invaluable living specimen of the Tong Lau way of life.
