Laminated Life - Plastic Products and Old Hong Kong Lifestyle
‘Plastic’ (Flexible PVC), what would you think of? How did Sir Martin Li Ka Shing earn his first Gold pot by sticking plastic flowers? ‘Hurray Factory Girl!’, the song by Miss Connie Chan Po Chu. Or when out of water supply, every household would carry a ‘Red A’ plastic bucket to the street tap? All these classical clips from 50s, 60s, it has gradually become part of our lives.
These features Cheap, Light Weight, Flexible Construction, has generated to be one of the most valuable products. From a toothbrush, rinsing mug in the bathroom to the lighting, table & chairs in the living room we have entered into a Life period with PVC.
How do we live through the last half century with these PVC products? This exhibition on ‘Flexible PVC’ at Wan Chai Livelihood Museum is to find out more about its long lasting and flexibility.
